Tips for Tutors

We’re well underway into the second semester of TutorMate tutoring, and hopefully, you’re developing a great relationship with your student. With a few months to go, we’re focused on making your experience and impact as successful and meaningful as possible! To help us optimize your sessions, please review and remember the following tips:

1) FEEDBACK: We truly depend on your feedback at the conclusion of your session, to help us identify successful and unsuccessful classrooms. Yet today, one in five tutors is skipping this key step. Please help us improve by leaving feedback!

2) START SESSION BUTTON: Always click Start Session before you call the classroom so that we will have a system record of your session attempt – even if the call doesn’t get answered. Then click Exit Session to conclude your session.

3) MAKEUP SESSIONS: Makeup sessions can be scheduled in any available slots. There is no need to seek out prior permission from busy teachers nor to explain a missed session. Also, please do not delete your recurring session when scheduling a makeup session.

4) STUDENT ATTENDANCE: Some teachers get busy and don’t always manage to update TutorMate attendance messages each morning. Unless you’ve received an explicit message that your student is absent, please call in during your scheduled time.

5) CHAT SUPPORT: Always reach out to CHAT support if something isn’t working right or if you don’t get through. Our CHAT technicians have remote access to the classroom computer and frequently are able to quickly resolve your issue and get your session underway. (You can use your cell phone browser if your company blocks our CHAT windows. http://tutormate.org/chat).

6) HELP TEAM: Turn to our tutoring coordinators! The vast majority of tutors have successful sessions. But we know that with about 4500 tutors this year, technical or other challenges can persist over time for a few tutors. If this ever includes you, please proactively email our HELP team at help@tutormate.org so that we can work to improve your experience.

If you’d ever like to review some or all of our new tutor training video, you can always replay it on demand here: http://tiny.cc/tutormatetrainingwebinar

Thank you for all that you do to help our young TutorMate students get started on a solid reading foundation, translating into academic and life success in no small measure!
